Roxana Acosta Gutierrez

Roxana Acosta Gutierrez is a Professor in the Department of Evolutionary Biology at the Faculty of Sciences of the National University of Mexico (UNAM) and an Associate Academic Technician "C" TC at the Museum of Zoology "Alfonso L. Herrera" (entomology).

Dra. Acosta works in biogeography and morphological and molecular systematics of fleas (Siphonaptera) and their hosts (Rodentia), as well as in host –parasite relationships.

 

Throughout her career she has described several new flea species for science, as well as expanded the knowledge of new hosts and  distributions of different species in her group of interest.

She has participated in projects related to this topic financed by the National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity and the Support Program for Research and Technological Innovation projects in Mexico.

 

She has publications in international scientific journals (more than 30), as well as book chapters and catalogs. She has taught more than 30 courses and conferences on biogeography and Siphonaptera.  Dra. Acosta has directed undergraduate and graduate theses. She is also active in the popularization of science, participating in several interviews.

 

She has received several awards throughout her career, including grants from Conacyt and the Mexican National Research System, and PRIDE.
